CEO's Summer Greetings

Wed Jun 18 09:00:00 2025

The first half of the year has been an interesting time. The United States got a new president, and his actions have impacted businesses in many ways — also here in Finland. The tariffs between the U.S. and the EU have naturally been the biggest issue, and time will tell how things evolve after July 9. Hopefully, an agreement can be reached between the EU and the U.S., allowing companies to once again focus on developing their operations without additional tariffs and a trade war.

Tariffs have already affected Nestor as well, both through raw materials imported from the U.S. and through our exports to the U.S. Fortunately, our operations are mainly focused on Europe, so the impact has remained limited.

In early June, we exhibited at the ANGA COM trade fair in Germany — the country’s most significant event for fibre optic network construction. Due to Germany’s economic situation, the pace of network construction has been somewhat slower, but the general sentiment now is that the market is gradually improving. Of course, President Trump’s surprising tariff decisions may still influence future developments — one way or the other.

As we are already well into June, the construction of fibre optic networks is also progressing rapidly in Finland. The buffer stock built on Nestor’s yard during late winter has been quickly decreasing, even though our fibre cable production in Oulu and microduct production in Tabasalu, Estonia, have been operating at full pace to manufacture more products.

I would like to thank our customers, partners, and staff for the first half of the year, and I wish you all a relaxing summer holiday!

Best regards,

Jarmo Rajala
