Our Field Support Manager Jouni Vaara conducted a site visit in Ylikiiminki, where Kairan Kuitu was constructing a fibre optic network.

Approximately 110 kilometers of Nestor's cables have been installed in the network so far. In total, about 225 kilometers of fibre optic network is being built in Ylikiiminki, with a total cable length of over 320 kilometers, equating to approximately 1.3 meters per meter built. The Ylikiiminki project also incorporates other Nestor Cables products, such as splice closures and distribution cabinets. Additionally, termination panels and boxes are used for connection purposes.

The Ylikiiminki project is a state-supported initiative, with ENP serving as the main contractor. During the site visit, Jouni was accompanied by Kairan Kuitu's CEO, Marianne Mäntylehto, and ENP's project manager, Pasi Haapakangas. "It has been quite challenging at times. The network construction is in its second year, and progress is good. Groundwork began unusually early, with excavators on-site already in mid-May," shared Marianne and Pasi.

The network is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023, by which time all customers should have their connections activated.

Nestor Cables also serves as the designer and documenter of the fibre optic network in the Ylikiiminki project. This ensures that the purchaser can verify that the selected products are appropriate and in accordance with the network plan.
